Hi all! Hopefully you’ve already read my first post Weekly Roundup – Week #1- Launch of my New Blog but if you haven’t feel free to check it out!
So it’s been a couple of weeks since I launched my blog and things are moving along slowly – kind of feels like “two steps forward, one step back”.
I work full-time at my “day job” so I’m finding it difficult to find time to write…sound familiar? I even forgot to write a “Weekly Roundup” for week #2 so I’m combining the last two weeks in this post. Despite the lack of time, I still managed to get a few blog posts out there:
The Easy Way to Use Google Fonts in Genesis
How to Create an Horizontal MailChimp Form
How to Add a Widget Before the Footer in Genesis
How to Set Up a “Back-to-Top” Button at the Bottom of your Blog
How to Set Up Goals in Google Analytics
What I Accomplished
When I wrote the Week #1 Roundup, I had a few goals and did not meet them all. One of the important things that I did want to do was to set up my social media accounts:
Facebook: I still need to switch the cover – it has my old business name on it. Because I had approximately 850 likes on this page, I obviously didn’t want to start from scratch so I put in a request to Facebook to change my page name to My Two Cents Project and lucky for me, they approved!
Twitter: Not happy with the cover here either so I’ll try to change it shortly. Same as my Facebook profile, I had already built a following so I simply changed the name.
Pinterest: Pinterest is a whole new ball game for me and I’m just starting to use it so I don’t have much of a following yet.
The second thing I wanted to accomplish since my last Weekly Roundup was to set up a Pinterest strategy. As I mentioned earlier, Pinterest is really new to me so I had to do some research. I cleaned up my boards + profile and joined a few group boards.
I’m now trying out BoardBooster (yes there’s a free trial) and although I’m still learning how to use it, I like it so much better than TailWind. I came across this tutorial on how to make BoardBooster work for you.
I’m anxious to see if I will see any results – I’ve been pinning regularly. I get the feeling that the momentum really picks up as you gain followers. At the moment, I don’t have that many followers but every day this number increases by 2-3.
I still haven’t written a business plan – yes I know I should but I like to think that I have a clear vision of what I want to accomplish so for now, it’s just not a priority (maybe it should be?).
Extra Stuff I Was Able To Pull Off
Aside from Pinterest, I’ve been posting regularly to Facebook and Twitter. From the research that I’ve done, I’ve decided to post to Facebook 1-3 times per day and to Twitter 10-12 times per day. When I look at my Google Analytics, Twitter really seems to be my number #1 source of traffic at the moment.
I’m not talking huge numbers – I barely get any traffic but judging by my reports, I get 3-4 unique visitors from Twitter everyday (since I started posting regularly). I have yet to have seen any traffic from Pinterest so you’ll have to excuse me if I seem a little skeptical when I hear people saying that Pinterest is a HUGE source of traffic for them – time will tell I guess.
I really want to ramp up my newsletter list so I finally finished a “freebie” as an incentive for sign-ups – you can check out my optin page here.
Next on my list is to finish the ebook that I started a while ago – currently I’m working on setting up the sales page. Hoping to have it up for sale in the next week.
When I decided to close my web design business a while ago, I knew that I would always remain involved in online work in one form or another. In the near future, I’d like to set up a “Services” page. Basically I’d like to offer some different services (such as setting up newsletters, blog design tweaks, WordPress installation and set-up, etc…) for bloggers.
I’ve also decided (as a long term goal) to create a video course to teach bloggers how to code so that they can design their own sites. As a WordPress developer, it seems like a natural thing to do! It will be an extensive course and will be based on the Genesis Framework.
So that’s about it for now! Got to get back to work! Drop me a line below if you have any comments or suggestions! I’d love to hear how/what you’re doing with your blog! Cheers!
